Before Creating a Video, Do These 3 Things!

In this video, Athila and Andre explore the three steps that every remodeler and builder should take before recording a video.

Here’s the thing. Video is super popular nowadays. Everybody wants videos, but we believe that every single video that’s created should have a purpose. So today, we’ll be talking about what are the things that remodelers and builders should do before they ever press record on a camera.

Step 1: Identify Your Audience

The first thing would be to identify their audience. Knowing who they’re going to be speaking with. The best way to do this is by using Instagram or YouTube. You can go on the analytics page and take a look at the people that most like, subscribe, and watch your videos. They break down the audience for you, showing their age and their gender. That’s a good starting point.

After you get the basic information, you can start to think about what are some common problems that they have. For example, maybe most of your work is a whole home renovation. So you can ask yourself, “What are some common problems that my clients struggle with?” This will help you create a persona you will use to target your videos. Once this is done, you’re ready to create the topic.

Step 2: Brainstorm the Topic

By knowing who is your audience, you can come up with common problems that they have. For example, a client of a design and build company might lack ideas or inspirations for their kitchen, don’t know how to visualize what’s on a drawing, or don’t know how to pick the best finishing materials. So it’s important to pick a topic for your video that will help your clients find answers to the problems that they are facing. That way, your content will add tremendous value to your potential client.

Step 3: Create a Video Outline

The last thing that you should do before recording your videos is create a video outline. This step is about breaking down the things you want to cover on that specific topic. If you get lost in your ideas, people are going to tune out. If you complicate your message too much, they’re going to just skip your video. So you have to make sure that you are addressing your ideas in a very practical and straightforward manner.

Noise is your enemy. So the outline is all about honing in and clarifying your message. Because if you confuse your audience, you will lose.

And that’s such a huge problem for many remodelers and real estate investors. They know so much about their business and industry. They want to help people. They want to teach. They want to show their audience that there’s a solution to their problem. But if you don’t take the time to use an outline to clarify your message and get to the heart of the topic and the heart of the problem; you will run the risk of saying things in a way that people are going to get confused and are going to tune out.

You have to make sure that you’re hooking the person, reminding them of the problem that they have, the solution that you provide to them, and then calling them to action.
